MOUNT-X: Interventions at the Stavrovouni area

In this course students continue the study of gradually more complex functional and spatial systems. The specific context of the studio is the site, and the aim is to investigate, analyze the site, construct speculations and propose a narrative for interventions at the site.  The studio investigates the various forms of mapping  (cartography, sectional drawings, models, collections etc.) as means of understanding, interpreting the site and eventually speculating about it. The studio also is interested in the formation of the narrative and eventually the specific programme of intervention as an outcome of the mapping. The aimed outcome of the studio is the introduction of small-scale interventions, offered to existing or new users as means to experience the site.  Specifically, the wider area of interest is that of Stavrovouni, an important piece of landscape at the Larnaca province, Cyprus.  Stavrovouni forms a large natural context, a unique landscape, with natural as well as man-made components, which will offer the students a laboratory for investigating relations of architecture with environment, nature and the landscape.
